That’s just sad. I’d like to imagine the new grey as a positive thing, a new blank canvas, but really its a poor substitute for the colorful interactive background of bookspines.

I had the same reaction–oo, a blank slate! But what makes the original so great is the intermingling of tags and the colorful books: traditional writings meets new and unconventional. Maybe it was getting a little out of control… but I have a feeling no one will take the time to paint those books on ever again. It is an invitation to be “ruined,” though I wouldn’t call it that myself.

I am curious how long the books had been there….

Man, I didn’t even realize those were painted books, I thought they were really in a tagged-up window.

I spse the people behind the original book painting felt pretty bad about the tags, but it was still beautiful in its urban entropic way.

The new gray coat feels like a rebuke.

“You’re the reason we can’t have nice things!”
